Star Trek Filming Sites III11. February 2023
Under the title De and me you can expect a reading from the book DeForest Kelley: Ganz nah & persönlich (DeForest Kelley: Up Close & Personal) by Kris M. Smith, published by In Farbe und Bunt in 2022, which the speaker (Thorsten Walch) has translated into German and which is the first book about the popular Star Trek actor in German. The book is about the decades-long friendship between the author (a female author at the time, by the way) and the actor, which began in the 1960s with the typical fan crush and finally turned into the intensive care as personal assistant of the terminally ill star at the end of the 1990s.
In addition, the translator and lecturer will also talk about DeForest Kelley in general and his life and career inside and outside of Star Trek, sharing some personal anecdotes with the audience, for example about his letter contact with Kelley in the 90s. Of course, there will also be an opportunity for questions from the audience.
Lecturer: Thorsten WalchDuration: 60 min - The Lecture will be held in: german
Author, journalist and translator Thorsten Walch is active in many ways: In addition to contributing to books such as the previous volumes of Die Star Trek-Chronik together with Björn Sülter and Reinhard Prahl, he co-authored the non-fiction books Es lebe Captain Future (2020) and Es lebe Firefly (2022), wrote Es lebe Star Wars (2019) on his own, and contributed to the translations of the books Die Gegner in Star Trek and Die Klapperschlange - Escape from New York: Die Entstehungsgeschichte des Kultfilms published by Cross Cult-Verlag.
He is also a contributing writer for well-known print publications such as GEEK! magazine, Star Wars - das offizielle Magazin, and FedCon INSIDER, and also writes for websites such as Serienjunkies and Planet Trek. The translation of DeForest Kelley: Ganz nah & persönlich was a long-held deep wish of his as a lifelong fan of the actor.
