Invitation to Dune
17. June 2021Spaceship design for SF stories
Star Destroyer and Borg Cube, generation ship and space fighter: For the journey between the stars, the protagonists need suitable vehicles. What do you have to think about when you act as an engineer with a pen in your hand? Propulsion and armour, habitat and cold sleep chamber, plasma launcher and laboratory, hyper radio and agricultural module – what does the spaceship need? Is it to hold one person or a thousand? Have supernova drives been invented? How complex are they, what space do they take up, what kind of fuel do they need? And above all: what design decisions make sense for what kind of story?
In the writing workshop: The Star Shipyard presents Robert Corvus different concepts. Under his guidance, the participants develop in small groups the machines that take their characters to the stars in various scenarios – and in doing so, leave their readers amazed.
All that is needed to take part is a good mood and a pen, registration is not necessary.
