FedCon 31 | Vortrag | Theremin 2 - Die Rückkehr | Markus Rogenhofer

Improved recipe: now with even more Theremin!

Due to the interest and the nice requests for the lecture at the last FedCon, this year you have the opportunity to get to know the most infamous musical instrument of science fiction in more detail!

And as you requested, this time we will go into more detail about specific playing techniques, pieces and famous performers like Clara Rockmore and Lydia Kavina. There will be demonstrations on the real instrument and again you can try out a professional theremin yourself! To make sure no one misses out, there will be a short summary of the amazing history of this instrument for all those who couldn’t be there last time, as well as an explanation of how it is technically possible to play an instrument without touching it. And yes, the singing saw is also back in the game …

Lecturer: Markus Rogenhofer
Duration: 60 min  -  The Lecture will be held in: german

Hello, my name is Markus Rogenhofer. I am a musicologist, musician and composer from Graz, Austria. Most of my work deals with the music of science fiction and music from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance; beyond that not to forget a lot of rock, classical Indian music and, well, in truth it's a mishmash of everything I can get my hands on.

In my talks, I'll give you insights into the music of your fandoms from the perspective of pop/media art studies, ethnomusicology, music psychology, and music sociology; as for the workshops, I bring experience from orchestras, all kinds of bands, as well as recording studios, and look forward to making music with you!
