Lucasfilm & Disney official artist
Tsuneo Sanda is a Japanese artist who has been active in the art scene mainly in the United States for 39 years. His overseas activities began in 1987 when he was commissioned by N.Y. OMNI Magazine to create numerous cover artworks. Around the same time, he was fortunate to come across Star Trek, which allowed him to create many poster works and covers for fan magazines.
Since 1995, the opportunity arose to create posters for Star Wars. In 2002, as the saga celebrated its 25th anniversary, Tsuneo Sanda independently came up with some concepts and proposed them to Lucasfilm.
As a result, with their favorable approval, he created the work ‘Star Wars 25th Anniversary,’ which may be considered one of Tsuneo Sanda’s representative works. This artwork, featuring all of the Star Wars characters in a way that had never been done before, was highly acclaimed and continues to be widely used on posters and puzzles even after 25 years. All the original artwork used is owned by George Lucas.
“After my first visit to Lucasfilm, I received the delightful request from them to freely create artwork directly for Lucasfilm. Many of the works I created, feeling the happiness of being trusted and able to keep drawing, have been widely used for art prints, posters, and magazine covers. Since then, I have continued to create numerous works for Disney art, Marvel art, Newsweek cover art, and more.
As we celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Star Trek this year, I was invited to FedCon 34 to create a commemorative art piece. At my booth, you can purchase FedCon-exclusive signed art prints. The motif also adorns this year’s official convention T-shirt (available for pre-order in the ticket shop).
Also, if you stop by the booth during the three days of the event, you’ll receive a limited edition autograph sheet with three different designs for each day!
It’s been a while since I last attended FedCon, and I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone at the venue!”
