3. January 2025Robert O’Reilly is an American actor best known for his portrayal of Gowron, the Klingon Chancellor, in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
His ability to open his eyes exceptionally wide gave his character a distinctive intensity and contributed significantly to Gowron’s popularity.
In addition to his iconic role in the Star Trek universe, O’Reilly appeared in over 100 film and television productions. He often played antagonists or shady characters and could be seen in series such as Cheers, Knight Rider, Sledge Hammer!, MacGyver, In the Heat of the Night and NYPD Blue. He also appeared in the 1994 film comedy The Mask, starring Jim Carrey.
O’Reilly’s involvement was not limited to acting; he also worked as a theater director. He received a Drama-Logue Award in 1981 and was nominated by the Los Angeles Drama Critics’ Circle for his directing work for his production of Marsha Norman’s play Getting Out.
Despite his retirement from acting, Robert O’Reilly remains connected to the science fiction community. He regularly appears at conventions and delights fans worldwide with his portrayal of Gowron. His appearance at FedCon 33 in Bonn offers fans the opportunity to meet a formative Star Trek actor in person.
