In the second part of the 1980s film trilogy Back to the Future, Marty McFly travels 30 years into the future, to the year 2015. What was then the future is now 10 years in the past. For Hubert Zitt, this is a good opportunity to look back from today’s perspective at a past that was once the future.

Marty McFly’s arrival was eagerly awaited ten years ago, and according to some “video evidence”, he actually arrived as a time traveler in 2015. Where and how this journey ended, Hubert Zitt will show in his presentation.

The lecture is a mixture of scientific observations and sophisticated entertainment. Many of the visions from the film have since become reality, while others are on the verge of becoming reality. However, Zitt goes one step further and claims that some things from today’s world were ultimately developed as a result of the film. This shows that science and good science fiction can inspire each other.

Dr. Hubert Zitt studied electrical engineering and works as a lecturer in computer science at the Zweibrücken campus of the University of Applied Sciences in Kaiserslautern. In addition to his “normal” teaching activities, Hubert Zitt has become known throughout Germany (and beyond) for his Star Trek lectures.

Together with Gene Roddenberry Jr., the son of the creator of Star Trek, Zitt wrote the foreword to the book “Star Trek in Germany” in 2008. In the fall of 2008, he taught “Physics of Star Trek” as a regular course over an entire semester at a university in San Antonio, Texas.

Hubert Zitt has now given over 500 Star Trek lectures and appeared in several television programs about Star Trek. He has been a regular guest at FedCon since 2005 and was honored by his agency “5-Sterne-Redner” (5-Star Speakers) with the award “Most Extraordinary Speaker of the Year” for the year 2012. In 2024, he received the Communicator Award – A Tribute to Star Trek Fandom in the category “Speakers and Lecturers”.
