Scientific Roundtable 3

After seasons 1 and 2 of the Scientific Roundtable generated great enthusiasm and filled the Beethoven Hall to capacity over the past two years, media journalist Reinhard Prahl, literary scholar Rebecca Haar, and biologist Bettina Wurche are meeting for the big anniversary celebration of Star Trek and discussing the question with their guests: Why do we explore Star Trek?

What may seem logical at first glance turns out, on closer inspection, to be a complex topic that is more difficult to shed light on than one might think. Star Trek is the subject of a wide-ranging academic discourse, with scholars from such interesting fields as media studies, philosophy, history, politics, sociology, astronomy, physics, and many other disciplines devoting themselves to it. But why is that? What makes a franchise like Star Trek not only interesting, but also so socially relevant that hundreds of academic papers and books have been published to date, with no end in sight? Look forward to a special kind of discussion evening with exciting guests.

About the speaker:

Media, culture, and literature scholar Dr. Rebecca Haar is a well-known figure when it comes to lectures at FedCon and has been guiding audiences through complex and exciting topics related to well-known fantasy franchises for years.

Reinhard Prahl is a media journalist, author, and writer, and is also well known to fans for his lectures on archaeology in fantasy films.

In addition, we look forward to welcoming exciting guests from various academic disciplines.
