When one thinks of “science fiction”, the first thing that comes to mind is Star Wars, Star Trek, Blade Runner or perhaps even Dune – the fact that the genre is far more diverse, whether in terms of film or literature, is usually only noticed by avid fans, and even these are mainly interested in products of American origin.
But there are also interesting science fiction materials elsewhere, for example in Japan or Russia. One of the most unusual countries is probably Romania, whose work in this field has remained largely unknown thanks to poor international evaluation. In the entertaining lecture Science Fiction from Romania at the FedCon 29 Thorsten Hanisch and Andrea Sczuka want to lead through the often quite wondrous, colorful and dazzling world of Romanian science fiction, introduce writers and filmmakers and show what makes Romanian science fiction special!
