FedCon 31 | Vortrag | Making a Monkey of Yourself | Steve Dix

Many people believe that the making of modern prosthetics is an expensive process that is beyond the abilities of the average cosplayer.

This isn’t true!  In fact, many of the big names in modern special-effects makeup took their first steps in the business thanks to Cosplay!

In this lecture, we will explain the basics of foam rubber and gelatine prosthetics,  how to make them and apply them, and where to find them if you don’t want to make them.  Tinsley transfers and silicone appliances will also be explained, as well as where to buy all the special equipment needed to make and apply such makeups.  Hint : It’s not as complex as you think.

We will also explain some of the pitfalls and problems of making prosthetics,  applying and wearing them, such as adhesives, making a facecast,  how you can get away with flat prosthetics, and also how to safely remove prosthetics without damaging your skin..

Lecturer: Steve Dix
Duration: 60 min  -  The Lecture will be held in: english

Steve Dix is a stand-up comedian, writer, film-maker and artist, who has lived in Cologne for the last 24 years.

He learned how to make foam-rubber prosthetics from Rob Burman, one of the most renowned special effects technicians in Hollywood, who worked on The Fly, Ghostbusters, The Thing and various Star Trek movies amongst others,  and Steve Neill, who made Mr. Spock's ears in Star Trek : The Motion Picture.  He has worked with foam rubber and gelatine prosthetics for the last four years, refining his craft.  He particularly enjoys the freedom to be someone else that wearing a prosthetic make-up gives him.

Last year, he surprised everyone by making a complete and utter monkey of himself with his Planet of the Apes cosplay.
